Vey is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of The Last Line in the Farin Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- The Vey system is a part of the Vey Trace.
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture
System Data
Indeera-Vey System
The primary is Indeera, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 6.26 Sols, a mass of 1.54 Sols and a diameter of 2.198 million km. Indeera's inner system consists of (I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III) a vacuum worldlet, (IV) a dense atmosphere radworld, and (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld – orbital position (II) is empty. (VI) Vey orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VIII) a small gas giant, (IX) a ringed large gas giant, and (X) a small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds in the system retain satellites.
Ginnel Subsystem
The companion is Ginnel, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 850 AU from Indeera. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.062 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. Ginnel retains (I) a sparse icy planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data
(VI) Vey
(VI) Vey is designated the mainworld. It orbits Indeera at a mean distance of 2.78 AU (416 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 3 years 277 days and a rotation period of 33.5 hours. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Vey has a diameter 7814 km, a density of 5.45 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.61 G. The world is geologically very active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.92 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by gases of volcanic origin. Approximately 47% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.75m. Mean surface temperature: 18°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star scour the surface. The climate is seasonal.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 192 million km², Water surface area: 102 million km², Land surface area: 90 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Vey, the mainworld has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (VII) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture.
World starport
Vey has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Vey possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Vey is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
World military
Military advisers and equipment have been exported to Exad (world), to train and support their military. The vast military manpower reserves here have led the government to offer their services throughout the lower technology worlds of the The Last Line. This improves this world's government influence and prestige, they are not the most advanced, but they are the most numerous. Legions of troops available to bolster less advanced worlds, a sign of solidarity in the leadership of the The Last Line. Some have speculated that the current ruler, who is unpopular, has his sights set on becoming the Defender-General of the Last Line, based on these credentials.
There are 20,000 army battalions for defense in forty field armies. This leaves 500 battalions of Elite Legionnaires in 25 divisions/Legions available for off world duty. At least one Legion has been send to Leware (world), Qatan (world), Ishker (world) and Exad (world), as a goodwill gesture. A full Legion is time consuming and expensive to deploy and support. The Indeera class ACV MICV is a GEV used in cavalry units. The Gladius class Combat Walker, is used in a close infantry support role. The Vandal class Tracked APC is used by infantry battalions in a variety of roles and configurations.
