Barnard is a non-agricultural, pre-industrial, moderate population vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions, with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • Its economy and population are slowly growing and living conditions are expected to improve in the near future barring outside forces.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
  • This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Sol Subsector of Solomani Rim Sector in the Domain of Sol.

Barnard is an Imperial vacuum world located on the Corridor chain within Sol Subsector of the Solomani Rim.

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility

Barnard, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

World Starport

Barnard has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Barnard was the site of First Contact between the Solomani and Vilani (Anglic: Vilani) in the year -2422 (AD 2097).

  • At the time it was the site of a small Sharurshid (Anglic: Sharurshid) prospecting base.
  • After first contact the Solomani, under the oversight of UNSCA, also settled Barnard.
  • In -2404 (AD 2118) an incident between the Solomani settlement and a Sharurshid (Anglic: Sharurshid) caravan resulted in the start of the First Interstellar War.
