Zoolan is a moderate population world with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts in population size.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Duhamel Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- It is part of the Verstand-Jugartha Colonies region.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Zoolan has a solitary primary star.
- It is a turbulent orange giant named Fariso.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's warmer inner H+ region
- It receives higher levels of stellar energy.
- The world orbits inside the star's huge Jump Shadow.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Zoolan has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- The world has an abiotic oxygen atmosphere.
- Oxygen is produced by photocatalytic conversion of surface materials by stellar energy.
- Fresh surface material is constantly exposed through processes such as seismic activity, volcanism, or erosion.
- The oxygen rapidly depletes from the atmosphere through oxidization with surface materials: a rough equilibrium between production and depletion exists.
- The percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere varies according to the density of global cloud cover.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Zoolan has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites:[edit]
Zoolan retains a small trace atmosphere moon.
- It orbits once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.
(Placeholder chart, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
No native life: the world has an abiotic oxygen atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Zoolan is a former outer system ice world that has been warmed by the star's evolution from a main sequence into a giant.
- The resources of the system are being exploited.
There is regular activity within the system.
- Commercial traffic is relatively infrequent: ships occasionally arrive and depart.
- Commo is buzzing with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
- Very strong signals and heavy interference are generated by the primary star.
- Multiple commercial navigation beacons will be active.
- A number of vessels will be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Zoolan has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Demographics (P)[edit]
Zoolan has a population of 700 million.
Urbanization[edit]
Multiple large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
- Large regions of the surface of the world remain as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Zoolan possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Zoolan is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 2.5 million personnel.
World Law (L)[edit]
Zoolan has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
- Infrastructure: 9 (extensive)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 8 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 8 (friendly)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
- Symbols: 9 (somewhat abstract)
World Timeline[edit]
- 300-420: the First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
