Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Udaethaen has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Udaethaen has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Udaethaen has a population of 7,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.

World Languages[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

Vargr cities are lively and chaotic, full of garish colours and loud noises. Streets are packed and buildings press together. Vehicle traffic is fast and chaotic; the accident rate is low only because of superior Vargr reflexes. Zoning codes are rare, and districts jumble together.

  • This world's hostile environment means that all settlements are fully enclosed.

World Government (G)[edit]

Udaethaen is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

  • Corruption is common in the Worlds of Leader Rukh; bribes are made to officials to avoid certain taxes, and charismatic individuals can talk their way out of most potential problems and fees.
  • To reduce any dissident movements within the military, soldiers are paid and treated well.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Udaethaen possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Timeline[edit]

Notable events affecting this world and the surrounding region include the following:

  • 1069: Several governments unite to form the Gnoerrgh Rukh Lloell (Anti-Rukh Coalition). The leaders of these six worlds in Spurl Subsector have no desire to become part of Rukh's empire; with Rukh's fleet spread over four subsectors the combined forces of the Coalition are able to defend their territories and maintain their independence from Rukh’s influence.
  • 1097: Death of Rukh, in an assault on the Zhodani-claimed world of Khoeghersaeng. The nation continues, after a period of instability.
