Sumoon is a non-agricultural, pre-industrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • Its economy and population are slowly growing and living conditions are expected to improve in the near future barring outside forces.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Duhamel Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • Vacuum worlds have no climate, but experience extreme differences in temperature between direct starlight and shade.
  • This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Sumoon has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a red main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Sumoon is a Twilight Zone World.

  • In the narrow region between permanent night and permanent day, the primary star eternally hangs on the horizon.

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones warmer inner H+ region
  • It receives higher levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Sumoon is a Small World between 900km and 2,400km in diameter. The world has very low gravity between 0.05G and 0.09G. The horizon will appear about 2km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Sumoon has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Sumoon has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

No native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Sumoon is an advancing world, with multiple government-sponsored programs to upgrade the technological base and the infrastructure. Fraud or inefficiency carry harsh legal penalties. The authorities are striving to make Sumoon self-sufficient.

  • The world is rated as an Amber Zone due to the severity of local laws.
  • The resources of the system are gradually being exploited.

There is limited activity within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is infrequent: ships only occasionally visit.
  • Commo regularly picks up signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
  • One or two commercial navigation beacons may be active.
  • A vessel or two may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Sumoon has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

  • Large sections of the starport are being upgraded.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Sumoon has a population of 30 million.

Urbanization[edit]

Multiple large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
  • Large regions of the surface of the world remain as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Sumoon possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Sumoon is governed by a Non-charismatic Dictatorship. A continuation of the charismatic dictatorship, where the original leadership has died or retired and replaced by allies or protégés. The reasons for the change in government remain as well as the assertion of rights to rule.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 120,000 personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

Sumoon has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. Most worlds with this law level may be an Amber Zone or Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). All aspects of life rigidly controlled. There is no difference between the police and the military. This world is a full-fledged police state. Oppression is legalized, though not routine.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 6 (millions)
  • Infrastructure: 7 (generally available)
  • Efficiency: +4 (advanced)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -1 (unimportant)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: C (framented)
  • Acceptance: 6 (aloof)
  • Strangeness: A (incomprehensible)
  • Symbols: C (very abstract)
