Sagittarius-Carina Arm
The Sagittarius-Carina Arm is the next spiral arm of Galaxias found coreward of Charted Space.
- See also "The Barren Arm".
- It is part of Galaxias or the "The Milky Way."
Description (Specifications)[edit]
LOCAL GALACTIC STRUCTURE:
The Local Region of Charted Space lies along the inner edge of a galactic arm of stars (known as the Orion Spur or Orion Arm) to rimward of the Sagittarius-Carina Arm. The Sagittarius-Carina Arm itself is a minor arm that lies rimward of the major arm known as the Scutum-Centaurus Arm or Scutum-Crux Arm (the extension of the Scutum Arm lying on this side of Galaxias). The arm begins as the Sagittarius Arm on the Far side of the Galaxy, eventually becoming the Sagittarius-Carina Arm after it splits with the Orion Arm as it winds its way around to the coretrailing side of Charted Space.
Scientists currently debate as to whether or not the Local Orion Spur is truly a rimward spur of the Sagittarius-Carina Arm, or whether the Local Region is actually a more substantive minor arm of its own (the Orion Arm) that is a coreward split from the Perseus Arm.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The far trailing region of the Sagittarius-Carina Arm has been noted on some Scout Service Charts as The Barren Arm with no particular explanations given. Rumor has it that the frequency of occurrence of "life" is much less along this region of the arm than has been seen elsewhere that the Scouts have surveyed. Whether that means life in general, or just sapient life, remains unconfirmed.
There are some unconfirmed rumors of a polity or settlement of some sort toward the very end of The Barren Arm of unknown nature or origin.
