Phobetor is a rich and moderate population garden world with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.

  • Garden worlds are known for their near-ideal utopian environments conducive to most sophonts, plants, animals, and other forms of life.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are rapidly prospering.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Ayaau'khte Subsector of Touchstone Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

The Phobetor System contains two stars, each with a planetary system. There are three habitable worlds (Terra Nova, Hades, and Ultima Thule), along with several other inhabited bodies.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Phobetor has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

500,000,000

World Demographics[edit]

The Humans of Phobetor fall into three groups:

  • Indigenous Humans, apparently arrived about 32-35,000 years ago. It is not known where they came from or how they reached Phobetor.
  • Shackleton Humans, who arrived a few hundred years ago, bringing with them the technology and social values of 22nd Century Terra. They spread out and mingled with the indigenous population.
  • Newcomers, arrived within the past century. They come from well-established but far-off cultures and brought with them their own values and technology. They include Imperials and Zhodani.

World Languages[edit]

World Government (G)[edit]

Phobetor has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

Nations and political powers of the Phobetor System:

On Hades:

  • Central Uplands Republic: Located in the centre of Hades' main continent, with outlying territories on high ground across the rest of the landmass. With a population of around 30 million located in several large cities, CUR is the largest of Hades' nations and the most stable.
  • Free Colonies: More a cultural region than an actual nation, a patchwork of small cities and large towns.
  • Hades City: Located on the coastal plains of the main continent, and the original settlement on Hades. It claims to be the capital of the planet and routinely demands obedience from other states, a demand that is politely ignored most of the time, with the occasional armed clash between Hades City and the CUR. Hades City has a population of nearly 20 million living within the city itself or behind its flood barriers.
  • Slater Corporation: This company has three large cities in the northern sub-arctic zone. It started out as a business group but has grown into a corporate state run by a board of directors.
  • Independent Settlements: Hades had many independent settlements, mostly inhabited by Humans.

On Terra Nova:

  • Arrix Republic: A major exporter of manufactured goods.
  • Gullreyha: The world's greatest maritime power, named after the Gullreyhan Archipelago which forms part of its territory. Total population is about 150 million, dispersed between small cities.
  • Imperial Enclave: The only nation that can produce TL-12 goods and military equipment, though its population is only around 150,000 Imperial citizens and about three times that number of locals.
  • K'kree Outback: The K'Kree communities of Terra Nova are a semi-nomadic people at an estimated TL-3.
  • Midgard Federation: Notable for its fanciful city and region names, the Federation has a population of about 100 million. It is more strongly unified than its name suggests and owns the largest space fleet in the system.
  • Republic of Khoe: The strongest of the local powers on Terra Nova. It has a large expanse of territory and a population of around 200 million. Khoe is well organised in terms of work gangs, military patrols and project teams, and can perform difficult tasks quickly.
  • Union of Independent City-States: This is not a nation as such but it acts like one when circumstances dictate. The Union leases a large tract of land to the Imperial enclave.
  • A nation of Vargr on the planet's larger moon has no formal name, being referred to by a phrase in Gvegh meaning something like "heroic explorers in the footsteps of earlier heroes".

On Ultima Thule:

  • Ascondi Homeland: The Ascondi have a large territory, mostly contiguous. The workings of the Ascondi government are unclear. It is not even possible to determine if they acknowledge the concept of the nation state.
  • Chebr Dlat: A city-state located on a large island in one of Ultima Thule's shallow seas, in the far southern hemisphere. It has a population of around 30,000 Humans, culturally Zhodani, and a small number of other species.
  • New Albion: The nation on Ultima Thule with the best spaceport. New Albion is the major Human power on Ultima Thule, although it is of lesser magnitude than the major states of Terra Nova. New Albion has a semi-feudal society, possibly based on a combination of European traditions from Old Terra, combined with a badly misunderstood version of Imperial nobility.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

No information yet available.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Phobetor possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Economy[edit]

Since the arrival of the Imperial contingent, the Imperial Credit has become the standard against which other currencies are rated, since Credits buy the highest technology goods available in the system. Many local transactions use dollars, a traditional name for money here; local currencies include kalshers, erros, and keb. Whilst locally useful, these currencies lose their value rapidly over distance.
