Magpie is an agricultural world with the potential to become an industrial power.

  • This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
  • This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Magpie is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a turbulent red bright giant named Corvid.
  • The secondary is a tiny white dwarf stellar remnant named Daw.
Magpie has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones prime H region.
  • It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Magpie is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Magpie has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Magpie has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Satellites:[edit]

The world does not retain any natural satellites.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Magpie is a world that should not exist. The star has too short a lifespan - a few tens of million years at most - for orbiting bodies to evolve beyond the molten protoplanet stage, yet Magpie is a fully formed, mature world. It has been suggested that the world has been extensively terraformed but there is little evidence to support this. There are few ideas about how or why it could have been done, or indeed who could actually have done it.

  • The geological structure of the world indicates it is billions of years old.
  • Academics continue to debate the world's origins.
  • Some propose that it is a previously unrecorded Ancients site.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Magpie has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Magpie has a population of 700,000.

Urbanization[edit]

A single large urban center is surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Magpie possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Magpie has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.
