Khan (RD 0817) is a poor, non-agricultural and industrial high-population hellworld with a billion or more sophonts who still struggle to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Hryaroaa Subsector of Reaver's Deep Sector.
- It is the capital of the Khan World League, a minor Pocket Empire.
- It has a nearby Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a nearby Military Base, usually associated with ground forces.
- It has colonies at:
- Cyne (Reaver's Deep Hryaroaa)
- Marie (Reaver's Deep Hryaroaa)
- Tembo (Reaver's Deep Hryaroaa)
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the Yedidah Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Khan is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Khan has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Khan has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This is the capital of the Khan World League, a pocket empire barely recognised by the regional powers. In theory the Khan is the absolute ruler, and all pay homage and loyalty to him. In reality, thick layers of bureaucracy have emerged to administer each planet. Some skeptics question how much the Khan truly controls.
The system has abundant natural resources that helped establish the mainworld as an industrial centre even as early as the Rule of Man, when Khan was a major supplier of technological items to surrounding Terran colonies.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Khan has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Naval Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Khan has a population of 3,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
World Languages[edit]
- Burath: A form of Reavers Cant that became the Khanate's lingua franca.
World Government (G)[edit]
Khan is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Khan has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Khan possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
