The Hermitage class Space Station is a civilian space station.

Description[edit]

The Hermitage is an ideal solution for any wealthy individual who desires privacy. It can be completely self-sufficient for at least 12 weeks and - with the addition of a few cheap robots, controlled by the onboard ship's brain - can be run without any requirement for sophont intervention. Alternatively (in the default configuration, as listed in this article), a crew of one sophont can operate the station (though combat performance degrades without a dedicated gunner).

Some Hermitages attract urban legends and conspiracy theories. For example, the mythical "Emperor's Twin Brother" is said to be imprisoned in a luxurious Hermitage. Others are simply known to be the preferred residences of loners, recluses, and others who like living apart from everyone else.

Most Hermitages have a personal grav vehicle externally docked when the owner is present, but some pirates use this as a tell for whether someone is aboard or whether the Hermitage is unattended. As a direct result, many Hermitages are modified with upgraded security.

The cargo space can be easily reconfigured between fuel and cargo. The official cargo and fuel ratings reflect the hold fully configured for cargo. Configuring for fuel is typically done to afford extra time before resupply, up to 2-3 years.
