Griswold is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Vanguard Subsector of Fulani Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Griswold has a solitary primary star.

  • It is an orange main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones colder outer H- region.
  • It receives lower levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Griswold is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Griswold has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Griswold has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • Much of the surface is a frigid, hostile environment.
  • The oceans are littered with icebergs and pack ice.

Satellites:[edit]

Griswold retains a small very thin atmosphere moon.

  • It orbits once every few weeks.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Griswold is a primitive backwater, with limited development and seeing relatively little traffic. Many of the planets and moons within it have never had an intelligent being visit them.

  • The resources of the system remain untapped.

There is little activity within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is very infrequent: ships rarely visit.
  • Commo generally only picks up natural background noise and static.
  • One or two commercial navigation beacons may be active.
  • Vessels rarely operate among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Griswold has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Griswold has a population of 900,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Urbanization[edit]

A few large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Griswold possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.

World Government (G)[edit]

Griswold has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 3500 personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

Griswold has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 7 (few)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
  • Efficiency: +1 (average)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 7 (discordant)
  • Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 6 (very distinct)
  • Symbols: 7 (somewhat concrete)
