Efusa Rift
The Efusa Rift is located within Iphigenaia Sector.
- It is an astrographic feature and a rift.
- It may sometimes be referred to as the Theda Gap.
- It is a significant obstacle to interstellar travel.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Efusa Rift is a region of lower stellar density within the central part of Iphigenaia Sector.
The Rift measures around 9 parsecs spinward-trailing by about 6 parsecs coreward-rimward. It consists of three distinct regions:
- The Theda-Spin forms its spinward part.
- The Great Theda forms its central and rimward parts.
- A single link across the rift is located at the Dennu system: this is known as the Dennu Bridge.
It is considered to be an isolated element of the Great Rift.

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based on Jump Drive performance.
The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is TL–12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.
- This level of technology allows the routine use of up to Jump-3 drives.
- Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Efusa Rift was first charted by explorers during the Second Imperium. It helped to isolate the petty states that later came together to form the Regency of Muirimi, and more recently it has served as a barrier against large-scale Aslan expansion through the region. The original Terran explorers labelled it the Theda Gap and the name was still in use up until the First Survey. By the time the Second Survey was conducted the name Efusa (a Naiurdu word meaning Protector) was in common usage.
Major Historical Events Timeline: 1105[edit]
- ca -1900: The first known human explorers are active in the region (a few Terrans of the Rule of Man). They largely continue to spinward.
- -1776: The Long Night begins.
- Year 0: Far to trailing, across the Great Rift, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 100s-200s: A few pioneering Imperial explorers skirt around the rift.
- 300-420: First Survey charts the rift.
- 995-1065: Second Survey charts the rift.
- ca 1000: Aslan scouts and pioneers begin to appear in the region: the rift hampers their progress to spinward.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
