Deckert is a nonindustrial fluid world.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Trooles Confederation in the Monway Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
- This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
- It is a member of the Korsumug Main.
- It is part of the The Oujda Trade.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Deckert has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x11 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's colder outer H- region.
- It receives lower levels of stellar energy.
- The world orbits beyond the star's Jump Shadow.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Deckert is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Deckert has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Deckert has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
- Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
Satellites[edit]
Deckert retains a single small arid moon named Jendo.
- It orbits once every few days.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Exotic native life occupying a few specialist ecological niches. Its metabolic functions help drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Deckert is a backwater outpost existing principally to service The Oujda Trade.
- Information about the system is sparse.
- The resources of the system are largely untapped.
A few private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is relatively frequent, largely consisting of vessels moving along the Korsumug Main.
- Commo picks up regular signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
- A number of commercial navigation beacons will be active.
- A vessel or two may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
This world is served by Continental Lines, a major shipping corporation in Human-controlled parts of Theta Borealis Sector.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Deckert has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Deckert has a population of 60,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Urbanization[edit]
A few small urban areas each surrounded by satellite communities.
- The population inhabit a single relatively large region.
- Most of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Deckert possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Deckert is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 300 personnel.
World Law (L)[edit]
Deckert has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 3 (thousands)
- Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 1 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 2 (very xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
- Symbols: 4 (concrete)
World Timeline[edit]
- 300-420: the First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
