Dahir was once a balkanized world, with many advanced nations. During a period of intense competition for global resources, political tensions escalated into a runaway military escalation. Armies quickly developed nuclear weapons as a "ultimate backup" to their armed forces, which then began to be used by politicians as populations demanded "justice" for real or perceived wrongs. Billions died in just a month.
As Dahir is a major system in the Republic, the Solomani stepped in, nullifying the nuclear arsenals from orbiting warships with ortillary-enabled nuclear dampeners. The major nations were disarmed, Solomani military bases constructed, a permanent Naval base built and heavily garrisoned, and military-rule established until "such time as it is no longer needed".
