General Description & Deck Plans[edit]
The Coronation-Class Battleship displaces 90,000 tons[1]. The appearance of the Coronation-class is designed to impress the viewer. A massive, wedge-shaped ship over 300 metres long, the class is studded with weapon ports and sensor bays. While it is streamlined to allow for frontier refuelling, it is not envisioned that the ship will make planetfall under normal circumstances. Its crew comprises 621 officers and 4128 enlisted personnel, as well as a Company of 300 Marines. Its embarked craft compliment is a mere five shuttles, leading to long waits to disembark during port liberty[2]. It is built around a 4x1010 Joule Meson Accelerator, and a secondary line of fire comprising nine large laser bays. 200 batteries of massed laser turrets, each with ten turrets, are available for close-range dogfights. For extra firepower, the ship carries 80 batteries of missile launchers with command devices to control up to 400 missiles at any single times, with 4000 missiles carried in onboard stores. The ship relies on heavy armour, nuclear dampers and 400MW meson screens for defence, with sandcasters not being standard but having some models retrofitted by replacing a number of laser turrets with sandcaster turrets[3].
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Coronations are found at the heart of Imperial Battle Squadrons. Operating in teams of two, with supporting cruisers and destroyers, Coronation Battle Squadrons are dispatched on combat sweeps of the frontier, siege enforcement, and mired diplomatic missions that require a show of force. Several Coronations have been modified to serve as flagships for fleet commanders by adding additional quarters, a second bridge, and extensive communications suites. They are considered good duty by most hands, with many new recruits sent to the big ships on the theory that such a large crew provides a good learning environment. During the first century of the Imperium, all examples of this class were thought to be in Imperial hands, though two were listed as Missing, Presumed Destroyed, or Missing in Action in Lishun Sector. There have been several reported sightings of the I.N.V. Sceptre operating near the Lishun/Vland border[6].
In the year 170, the Coronation-Class Battleship Horn would become the first Imperial battleship in Reaver's Deep Sector. Aslan raiders in the Mirinda System were caught and destroyed by Horn, but a handful of survivors escaped, carrying the first confirmed account of the Third Imperium back to the Aslan Hierate[7].
