Bonn has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.

Description (Planetology)[edit]

Many spacefarers think of Bonn as an orbital port rather than a planet; few venture down to the hostile surface.

Stellar Data[edit]

Bonn has two stars in the star system.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Bonn is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Bonn has an Insidious Atmosphere which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit, but extreme conditions cause the corrosive effects to defeat any personal protective measures in a few hours. TL–10 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Bonn has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Apart from specialist outposts, Bonn’s entire 60 million population live and work in a single underground city. Bonn is a very mineral-rich world and heavy investment resulted in an economic powerhouse that exported its goods throughout the rest of the subsector and beyond. The port was built initially to support this trade, but became a secondary source of wealth in a fairly short time.

In a legal grey area of sorts, Bonn has come to control the port at Jokelyn too.

World Starport[edit]

Bonn has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

The port is a large, advanced, highly capable installation which more than justifies its 'A' rating. It is owned and operated by the world government, and represents the main source of income for the planet. Around 12,000 people live and work at the orbital component of the port. Most are recruited offworld, although the management staff and many long-service personnel are locals.

World Population (P)[edit]

Bonn has a population of 90,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

Urbanization[edit]

Outside of Bonn City, where the vast majority of people live, a small number of commercial outposts are involved in resource extraction, which ranges from conventional mining to the extraction of water and rare compounds from the atmosphere.

World Technology Level[edit]

Bonn possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Bonn is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

  • Those holding high office in the trade, industry, or governmental sectors are fabulously wealthy and guard their status carefully.

World Law (L)[edit]

Bonn has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.

  • The harsh law enforcement within Bonn City is in some ways necessary, given the hostility of the planet and the threat of its toxic environment. However, the same attitude applies to all regulations and laws, from littering to civil disputes.
