Atssis is an icy, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world, whose surface is ice-capped and with nearly all of its water frozen.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a client state of The Protectorate in the Retan Subsector of Far Frontiers Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Atssis is a binary star system.
- Both are red main sequence stars.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Atssis is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Atssis has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Atssis has 25-35% of its surface covered by ice, either in vast sheets or contained deep within craters or fractures on the surface. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants can be got by mining and melting ice.
- The surface of the world is composed of a crust of ice many kilometers thick.
- Much of the surface is cratered and covered in thick layers of regolith and dust of meteoric origin, leaving only around 30% of the icy outer shell exposed.
- Below the outer icy shell there may be a world-ocean of liquid water.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, trace atmosphere world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
In 912, The Protectorate began to expand its economic power into Retan Subsector. While The Protectorate denied that it was expanding its borders, both the Zhodani and (later) the Third Imperium refused to believe them. The Protectorate exerts such power on this world that political maps of the region sometimes show it as official Protectorate territory.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Atssis has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Atssis has a population of 7,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The human population has Zhodani and Vlazhdumecta heritage.
- Around 7% of the population (approximately 500,000 individuals) is made up of Chirpers.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
- Local languages descended from Vlazhdumecta.
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani and the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Atssis possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Atssis is governed by a Corporate Polity, having a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. Essentially, this is a "company town" (or world). The typical corporate-run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families, including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
World Law (L)[edit]
Atssis has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: C (very abundant)
- Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 4 (limited)
- Efficiency: -2 (fair)
World Culture[edit]
The world lies within the Zhodani Shadow, a region strongly influenced by the society and culture of the Zhodani Consulate.
- Heterogenity: 4 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 6 (aloof)
- Strangeness: 3 (somewhat typical)
- Symbols: 7 (somewhat concrete)
