Ash has a thin, tainted atmosphere and a complete lack of surface water, making it poorly suited to sophont habitation. The system has a population of hundreds of millions of sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Pretoria Subsector of Deneb Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Ash, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdoms of a marquis and a viscount. All three are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

Mainworld Data

Ash is a stellar antique. The world is at least ten billion years old, and most of its original atmosphere has leaked away. It is swept by powerful windstorms that strip away rock, dirt and ice, carving the local landscape into grotesque forms. The local climate is bitterly cold, and difficult to breathe without a mask; and yet the world has attracted a sizeable population of Humans.

Mainworld Size (S)

Ash is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Ash has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Ash has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)

The world possesses massive deposits of iron and copper, and large processing plants, smelters and foundries were constructed to convert the local ore into a useful form and make implements for export. Other industries were established in their wake, and Ash has a sizeable population despite severe local conditions.

World Starport

Ash has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

New Era

Ash still possesses the largest population of any Frontier world in Pretoria Subsector, a fact viewed as a liability by many in the Regency Safe.

Wreckage from the Battle of Ashes is maintained in orbit as a gravesite and zero-gravity museum by the planetary government.
