Artemis is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Duhamel Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Artemis has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a yellow main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones colder outer H- region.
  • It receives lower levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Artemis is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Artemis has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Artemis has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Satellites:[edit]

Artemis retains a small close vacuum moon.

  • It orbits once every few days.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Artemis is largely focused around the commercial port, which offers maintenance and repair services to vessels as they work their way across the region. There is little legal regulation and commodities and services prohibited on other worlds are freely available.

  • The resources of the system are largely untapped.
  • The world is a favored spot for ship layovers.
  • It is rumored to have an active slave market.

There is little activity within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is infrequent: ships rarely visit.
  • Commo regularly picks up signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
  • One or two commercial navigation beacons may be active.
  • A vessel or two may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Artemis has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Artemis has a population of 90,000.

Urbanization[edit]

A single large urban area, adjacent to the starport, surrounded by a few satellite communities.

  • The population inhabit a single relatively small region.
  • Most of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Artemis possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Artemis has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 300 personnel.

  • Armed forces are under the personal command of a charismatic leader.

World Law (L)[edit]

Artemis has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 3 (thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 4 (very limited)
  • Efficiency: -3 (poor)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 1 (ordinary)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 1 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)
