Native Lifeforms

The oceans are rich in life. Tentacled fauna construct elaborate submerged warrens, while some predators are notably aggressive. Kelp forests provide cheap food production. On land, plants and animals are less advanced.

Ara Pacis is the seat of the County of Ara Pacis. It is part of the Sabine Backwater.

The world was first colonized by settlers from Magash (Deneb 0316) in 450. Ara Pacis is now a balkanized world whose six million people represent a wide variety of cultural norms. The cluster of small states struggle against each other for control of the sole Class-A starport.

World Starport (Sp)

Ara Pacis has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Ara Pacis has a population of 6,000,000 sophonts (millions).

Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

• The Year 0: To rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
• 75: Regina Subsector in the Spinward Marches is settled, shifting the centre of trade from Deneb to Mora.
• Circa 210: Ara Pacis is a holding of the Thengin Uedzaz, a small Vargr polity.
• 220: Vargr Campaigns begin.
• 298-366: Sabine Subsector is settled by Imperials.
• 300 to 420: The Imperial First Survey.
• 350: Vargr Campaigns end.
• 366: Sabine Subsector admitted to the Imperium.
• 450: Ara Pacis is settled from Magash.
• 470: The mining settlement of Tunareja is established on Ara Pacis by Ling-Standard Products.
• 613-622: The Denebian Bad War, part of the Civil War.
• 720: Continued indifference from the major worlds results in the Sabine Minor Uprising, where worlds of the Sabine Backwater fight a series of losing battles in a bid for independence. The major worlds smash the rebellion.
• 800s: Ling-Standard Products pulls out of Tunareja; the community suffers economic collapse.
• 1065: The Second Survey is published. Information about the region becomes widely available.
