Aelkhue is an icy vacuum world with little or no atmosphere and a significant quantity of water frozen on the surface. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This is a cold world with an overall climate at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance. It is a member of Infinity League in the Khuzedhoth Subsector of Knoellighz Sector.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Aelkhue is a prospector's dream and nightmare within a single system. It is located on the growing end of the Infinity League polity in Khuzedhoth Subsector. This world was discovered by corporate prospecting interests; it was surveyed and immediately marked for mining since full colonization was deemed too costly. Prospecting vessels land and conduct operations at marked sites or unclaimed zones in areas believed to be rich in resources.

World Starport[edit]

Aelkhue has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • An A-rated Highport was funded by the Infinity League and put into orbit; a boom-town environment and depot for prospectors and wildcatters seeking to stake a mining claim on the mainworld surface. Prospectors register claimed areas with the depot and then descend to begin operations. Claim jumping and other acts of piracy are prolific after 1110 and rampant after 1116.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

Gvegh is the Vargr language spoken in the Infinity League, a carryover from settlers originating in Gvurrdon Sector. Many well-educated or corporate Vargr of the League also speak the Zhodani language Zdetl and touch upon Vuakedh when needed.

World Technology Level[edit]

Aelkhue possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Aelkhue has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World Law Level[edit]

The Aelkhue frontier atmosphere and tavern-style environment has led to it becoming a haven for smuggling dead drops, as there is little law and no controlling government. Many groups carry weapons openly and there are the usual Infighting brawls and firefights at the Highport.

World Military[edit]

This world petitioned the Posthumous, a Privateer band from Tsouu (Knoellighz 1131) to patrol the system for claim-jumpers and corsairs. Smuggling through Aelkhue between the Infinity League, the Zhodani Consulate and the Ascendancy Pact became an issue; this caused the world to request the construction of a Naval Base from the Office of the President. The request was denied due to cost projections and overruns. Afterwards the system became a small-time operations world as corporations backed out to avoid increases in insurance claims. When Navy vessels do patrol the system, commuting civilian ships huddle around them for protection for as long as possible. The sight is nicknamed the “Halo Effect”. Mercenaries for hire can be found through their representatives at the Highport.

World Economy[edit]

Resources extracted from Aelkhue include Iridium, Petrochemicals, Meteoric Iron, Photonic gems, precious jewelry gems, and lanthanum. Hauls find their way to needy neighboring worlds inside two parsecs. However, extensive mining over a small planet has caused occasional tectonic activity featuring earthquakes. Such quakes are deadly and have trapped or crushed more than a few vessels.

Offworld, corporate, logistics businesses set up kiosks at the dockyard and become available to local prospectors and wildcatters but can often suffer 100D piracy later. Many prospectors sell their hauls here and complete their transactions without taxation in-system.

History-Era: Virus Era 1130s[edit]

Aelkhue becomes a battleground of both civilian and military ships as Virus infects, takes over ships and attacks anything moving that isn’t infested. Later, small-unit puppeteers try to form a Vampire Fleet before being eradicated by a nearby Zhodani quarantine fleet. The final approach to the mainworld is littered with derelicts and is slow to recover as salvage teams pick carefully through the wreckages.

History-Era: Empress Wave 1150[edit]

Because the population of Psions and psionics-trained individuals was so few, the effects of the Wave were either brushed under the carpet or overlooked in favor of more sensationalist news of system problems. The Wave passed with little recognition of those Psions suffering its effects.

The White Dwarf in this system was captured and orbits almost perpendicular to the plane of the rest of the system. Thus far, only one near-miss has been recorded, charring the surface of Aelkhue for a week by calculations. Astronomers continue to monitor and calculate the next near-miss by the tiny, white star and prepare for the heat event.
