Description (Specifications)

The Plutand Economic Union was an economic co-prosperity sphere located in Dashinshaii and Truax Subsectors, in the rimward-trailing part of Gushemege Sector. It only ever had three core systems, though a number of other worlds maintained trade agreements with (or were exploited by) the Union. This wider region was known as the Plutand Economic Area.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Plutand Economic Union formed during the Long Night.

As Gushemege sunk into the Long Night, the world of Unlardigard found itself in dire straits, since its minimal native life offered little sustenance and its hydroponic gardens were prone to failure. Trill, its neighbouring system, was a naturally habitable world and a major agricultural producer. It used this as leverage, demanding high prices for its produce, and assumed the position of regional overlor. However, as the Night deepened, Trill's higher technology began failing, and it became increasingly dependent on resourceful Unlardigardian technologists. In -1309 the two worlds signed the Treaty of Plutand, pledging mutual aid and support. Using Trillian hardware and Unlardigard know-how, the Union was able to reach out to other worlds including Xanten, Glipli, and even occasionally to Zanish. The Union was able to sustain TL–10 for most of the Long Night.
