The Militia class Military Scout is a TL–14 reconnaissance Scout Vessel. It is one of the most common starships found in Vegan Space.
Description
It is a vessel with 5-G and J-5 performance with a streamlined cone hull. Equipped with Jump-5 drives, and capable of 5G's acceleration this cramped design was envisioned as a long range scout. Other navies would see a vessel this size as a destroyer escort. The abundance of energy weapons, coupled with the Model/8 fib main frame power drain, robbed the design of its agility.
The size of the fuel tanks precluded hull armor, so only a single battery of sand casters provided defense. Various nuclear missiles launchers, a particle accelerator barbette, a pair of fusion guns, and a couple of beam lasers were crammed in-between the massive drives.
It has a crew of 16.
History & Background
The operators on this vessel developed a shoot and scoot philosophy. Upon detection, collect data and jump out immediately to report activity to the next higher level of the chain of command. Enemy crews saw this a cowardly, Vegan strategic proponents saw this as pragmatic. VNS 71D.
