Reunion is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a part of the Third Reformed French Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation, located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.

System Data

The Reunion primary is a G-class star with an age of approximately 4.2B years.

Mainworld Data

The Reunion main world is a younger, rocky world of standard size and gravity. It still retains a large amount of its atmosphere, and has the expected high amount of tectonic activity. In many ways, this world is a slightly older version of Euxene.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Reunion has several high and volcanic mountain ranges. Because the mapped tectonic plates move rapidly, there are also an equal number of mid-plate mountain ranges that have eroded to more moderate heights, in the 15000m zone. There are 5 mid-sized to large seas on Reunion connected by a lengthy system of lakes, mostly near the equator in a belt arrangement. The river systems extend to the East (spinward) to a lowpoint ocean up against a wide plateau, the Plat. This arrangement results in the higher latitudes being progressively drier, though Reunion does have substantial ice packs.

The atmosphere is a nitrogen, oxygen, helium mix at 1.4 atm at sealevel. This pressure decreases to roughly 1.1 atm at 1km above sealevel.

World Starport

Reunion has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level

Reunion possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Reunion is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law Level

Reunion has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military

The Reunion Board maintains a small ground army and police force with access to the latest military and policing technologies. There is a excellent rapport with the system military bases and their personnel, who take shore leave here regularly.

Within Paradis, the law level excludes projectile weapons from the civilian ownership.

Urbanization

The Reunion urban zone mirrors Euxene siting and construction, with the sides of the largest mid-plate range being developed. A outpost or village, Nouvelle-sur-Vert has been constructed near the closest sea. The inhabited mountain range city, Paradis, has constructed a midline residential tunnel, and most architecture is a direct transplant from Euxene.

Reunion is different enough from Euxene that it can market itself as a luxury getaway where the adventurous can "rough it" a bit. Given its tiny population, relative to Euxene, it can also call itself "reclusive".

The Board families also maintain exclusive Jump-4 transit rights from Nereus_(world) and Columbier_(world), and Jump-5 transit rights from Euxene to and from Reunion. The Euxene-based "Reunion Supreme II" is the high jump ship that is dedicated to that route.

Historical Data

In 905, Reunion was colonized by a small group of wealthy Euxene industrialists with Military-based companies. Those families retain ownership and control of most of Paradis to this day.
