The Giant class Tanker is an Auxiliary starship.
- It is a military ship and a Auxiliary.
Description (Specifications)
The Giant class Tanker. The ship has fuel scoops and a large purification plant. and its streamlined needle/wedge configuration allows ocean planetary landings for refueling. The ships 6 G acceleration is sufficient for safe gas giant scooping. The ship is capable of jump 4, to keep up with imperial fleets. It carries a minimal weaponry suite.
Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]
| No. | Category | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | Tonnage | The Giant class is constructed using a 600,000 Ton hull built in a generally Needle-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving fair atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems.
|
| 2. | Crew | 3807 personnel.
Accommodations
Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.
|
| 3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a Jump-4 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and a Power Plant-6, giving performance of Jump-4 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 4 and an emergency agility of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-4 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
| 4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/9fib computer: no backup computer is installed.
|
| 5. | Hardpoints | 6,000 hardpoints.
|
| 6. | Armament | The normal weapons fit-out for a Giant class is:
|
| 7. | Defenses | The hull is unarmored.
|
| 8. | Craft | Flight Section
The subcraft are housed in a dedicated hanger: the hanger can be sealed and has a total volume of 169 Tons. |
| 9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 405,500 Tons.
Refuelling Tankage
|
| 10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel is MCr356,132.168
|
| 11. | Construction Time | 234 weeks (54 months) as standard.
|
| 12. | Comments | Standard cargo capacity amounts to 148 Tons.

History & Background (Dossier)
The Giant class Tanker is the primary fleet tanker within the 146th Fleet, which operates in the Oreo Subsector of Massilia Sector.
During fleet operations Giants may perform a "running skim": the huge tanker maintains a constant skimming run within the atmosphere of a gas giant world, while other vessels match its course and perform a vessel-to-vessel transfer of refined fuel. Such maneuvers are hazardous and unpopular with crews, but can dramatically decrease refuelling times. The vessel's gigs will run ahead of the tanker during these operations to give advanced warning of possible hazards such as turbulence.
