The Barren Arm comprises the greater trailing portions of parts of the Scutum-Crux Arm and Sagittarius-Carina Arm of Galaxias. It lies outside of Charted Space and seems to be curiously devoid of almost any type of life.

The Barren Arm comprises the greater trailing portion of the Scutum-Crux and Sagittarius-Carina Arms of Galaxias, the Sagittarius-Carina Arm itself an extension of the Sagittarius Arm that has its origin on the opposite side of Galaxias.
