The position of Leading Sergeant (E7) is the non-commissioned officer appointment in the Imperial Army for the second most senior non-commissioned officer in an Imperial Army Company.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Each Company in the Imperial Army has one Leading Sergeant who is the second most senior Sergeant in the unit. Some Imperial Army Regimental (or greater) staff appointments are also for Leading Sergeants, such as Company Quartermaster Sergeant (CQS) or Colour Sergeant (C/Sgt).
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Close Orbit and Airspace Control Command) is Senior Flight Sergeant.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Nautical Force Command) is Chief Petty Officer.
In other services:
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Navy is Chief Petty Officer.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Marines is Leading Sergeant.
These NCOs may also sometimes serve as Staff NCO of a Company in lieu of the appointment of a First Sergeant.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The term sergeant refers to a non-commissioned officer placed above the rank of a corporal. The term leading sergeant thus refers to their being one of the chief of these sergeants within the company.
Historically, Sergeants of this grade were often charged with protecting the regimental flags (colours) of the field of battle, and still have such a role in ceremonials today. When performing this role they are still addressed as Colour Sergeant.
