History & Background (Dossier)
The term sergeant refers to a non-commissioned officer placed above the rank of a corporal. The term leading sergeant thus refers to their being one of the chief of these sergeants within the company.
Historically, as an appointment of Master Sergeants, these Sergeants were responsible for ensuring the troops of the company were accommodated, fed and equipped. They still have part of this role. As a consequence they may also additionally fill the role of Quartermaster Sergeant in their Leading Sergeant billet on occasion as well.
