The Tshini of Zephor are a minor race with a generally non-humanoid appearance.

Description (Specifications)

Tshini are large, standing some 2.5 meters tall and weighing around 300 kgs. They have a generally crouched posture, but when they stand upright and extend their necks they can reach a height of up to 4 meters.

Their movements are slow and measured, though they are capable of bursts of speed.

Some Terran observers have compared them to the Earth Pangolin.

Tshini cannot swim, but since they can hold their breath for up to half an hour, they are known to cross water by walking along the bottom.

They have deep, rasping voices and eyes that are adapted to see in the dark.

Tshini are primarily nocturnal. They prefer to rest in a shady spot during daylight hours.

Diet and Trophics

Tshini are classified as herbivore intermittents. Their primary foodstuffs are roots and fruit, which they are able to dig out of the ground with their large clawed fingers or reach up into tall flora and pick. They also eat foliage of all kinds, and will regularly consume insects and even, occasionally, small animals. They feed occasionally, usually consuming a single vast meal then taking around a standard week to digest it.

Psychology

Tshini exhibit recognized characteristics of intelligence:

  • Conceptual thought, including abstract language.
  • Social structure, including social organization.
  • Tool use, allowing environmental manipulation.

Tshini psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:

  • Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
  • Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
  • Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).

Native Culture

  • Homogeneity 1 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance 1 (extremely xenophobic)
  • Strangeness 2 (typical)
  • Symbols 2 (very concrete)

History & Background (Dossier)

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

The Tshini are native to Zephor, in Corelian Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

After the devastation of Zephor, their homeworld, and the extinction of their rivals the Zephora, the majority of the surviving Tshini moved to a planet they call Tshi, a secondary world in the Bytholm system in Evalren Subsector.

  • Only around 7000 individuals still inhabit the homeworld.
  • Around 40,000 Tshini are resident on Tshi.

A Zephora, the now extinct species that evolved alongside the Tshini on Zephor.

The Kingdom of Peladon was instrumental in facilitating the move, providing starships to transport the Tshini, large amounts of supplies, and experts who were able to assist with their resettlement.
