The Montgomery class Frigate is a warship.

• It is a military ship and a Frigate.

Description (Specifications)

The ship carries the mandated Alfred Class Gunboat. A noble decided that every ship in the fleet should carry one of these 90 ton Gunboats. The ship has scoops and purification and its partially streamlined close configuration hull is lightly armored. This allows for gas giant refueling. The ships 6-G acceleration, and 6-Agility helps keep it out of danger. The ship is capable of Jump-4, to keep up with Imperial Fleets. It carries a pair of missile bays, a pair of dual fusion gun turrets, four triple beam laser turrets, and two particle accelerator turrets. This design has a low watch to replace lost crew or carry ship's troops.

The hull is partially streamlined, giving a relatively limited atmospheric performance that is reliant on its onboard gravitic systems. There are 15 airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x43 personnel. x5 Officers. x38 Enlisted, including 3 Security. Accommodations There are 21.5 Staterooms. All quarters are double occupancy. There are 22 Low Berths. These hold the Frozen Watch. The low berths are tended by the vessel's medical staff. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-4 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and a Power Plant-8, giving performance of Jump-4 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-4 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/9fib computer: no backup computer is installed. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package.
5.	Hardpoints	28 hardpoints. The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Montgomery class is: x4 triple Beam Laser turrets, typically grouped into a single battery of 4 linked turrets. x2 dual Fusion Gun turrets, typically forming two batteries each of 1 turret. x2 single Particle Accelerator turrets, typically grouped into a single battery of 2 linked turrets. x2 100-Ton bays, mounting Heavy Missile Launchers.
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 5. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	Flight Section x1 90-Ton Alfred class Gunboat. The Gunboat is housed in a dedicated hanger: the hanger can be sealed and has a total volume of 117 Tons.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 1,344 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.

11.	Construction Time	130 weeks (30 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Montgomery class Frigate sees service in Fleets across the Domain of Sylea and beyond. It was designed to be produced in shipyards across the Domain and was intended for general Imperial service, and as such it bore no particular cultural or political influences within its architecture. However, it was designated for service with the 146th Fleet stationed in Oreo Subsector, and consequently the eccentric but influential 14th Duke of Oreo became involved in the project.

The 14th Duke was a direct descendant of the aristocratic Halls families, the pre-Imperial rulers of Oreo Subsector. When the Oreo Worlds, the proto-polity they controlled, was absorbed into the expanding Third Imperium they gained a privilege known as the "Oreo Settlement". This mandated that any vessels that were to serve with the 146th Fleet – the designation given to the former Oreo Worlds flotilla and considered by the 14th Duke to be his "personal Fleet" – must be locally designed and manufactured. The privilege had been granted by Cleon I himself and the Duke insisted that it must be honored.

The demand was utterly impractical and strategically suicidal, and the Navy resisted the proposal, eventually resulting in the direct intervention of the Archduke of the Domain. She ruled that all vessels of the Montgomery class, no matter where they served, were to carry an Alfred class Gunboat, a small combat craft that was the personal design of the 14th Duke himself. The Alfred was a capable vessel and all parties found the resolution acceptable. The current Duke has maintained his father's policy and as a result many classes of warship operating within the Domain carry at least one Alfred. Some naval officers resent the ongoing Noble influence on naval architecture: others see the broader political benefits that such indulgences can bring.
