Exad is an agricultural world with the potential to become an industrial power.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import many manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
- It is a member of The Last Line in the Murada Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology
The Exad system is a part of the Vey Trace.
- Exad is a gas giant satellite.
- It is a former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture
System data
Firag-Exad System
The primary is Firag, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.62 Sols, a mass of 0.917 Sols and a diameter of 1.266 million km. The inner system consists of (I, II), two rocky vacuum worlds. (III) Paramal, a large ringed gas giant, orbits within the habitable zone: (IIId) Exad is its largest satellite and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a cold thin atmosphere world, (V) a small gas giant, and (VI) a small ice giant form the starward part outer system. Orbital positions (VII) through (XIII) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (XIV) a sparse icy planetoid belt forms the spaceward edge of the outer system. All of the gas giants retain families of satellites.
Olarna Subsystem
The companion is Olarna, a small red main sequence star that orbits Firag at a mean distance of 78.2 AU (orbital position (XII), 11.7 billion km) with an orbital period of 722 years. It has a luminosity of 0.001 Sols, a mass of 0.215 Sols and a diameter of 280,000 km. (I, II) two icy vacuum worlds, (III) an exotic atmosphere world, and (IV) a sparse icy planetoid belt form its outer system. The exotic atmosphere world retains two large satellites.
(III) Paramal
(III) Paramal is a large gas giant that orbits Firag at a mean distance of 0.65 AU and has an orbital period of 199 days 21 hours. It has a diameter of 76,000km and is a pale reddish-brown colour. It retains a family of five major satellites of which the fourth, (IIId) Exad, is designated the mainworld. A group of three large storms, lying to the north of the enormous world's equator, have been circling for centuries.
(IIId) Exad
(IIId) Exad is the fourth of the five major moons of Paramal and is designated the mainworld. Exad orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 40 diameters (3.04 million km), with an orbital period of 68 days 18 hours and a rotation period of 45.5 hours. The axial tilt is 11 degrees. It has a diameter 10684 km, a density of 5.13 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.78 G. The world is geologically very active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.94 bar and a composition of 71% nitrogen, 28% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the high percentage of oxygen and by relatively high levels of background radiation. Approximately 58% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 17°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the oceans, sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.
Mainworld geography and topography
Total surface area: 359 million km², Water surface area: 208 million km², Land surface area: 151 million km².
Native lifeforms
Extremely abundant native life, vast amounts of flora producing huge amount of oxygen. Complex ecosystem, many types of gigantic fauna.
History & Background (Dossier)
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture.
World starport
Exad has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Exad possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World government
Exad is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
