Khandi has a thin tainted atmosphere and a lack of available surface water. The system has a population over one billion sophonts. It has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Khandi Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Khandi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdoms of a count and the Subsector duke. All three are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. During the Long Night this world was named Khandi.

Mainworld Size (S)

Khandi is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Khandi has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Khandi has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

History and Background

Khandi became regional capital of the Vilani province of Dagudashaag in -3,986.

It was incorporated into the Third Imperium.

Khandi's strong growth in population since the early 600s, combined with its total lack of agricultural capacity, has created a need for imported agriproduce. Neighboring system are unable to fulfill this need. The world is presently able to feed it population through the use of hydroponic facilities; quality foodstuffs still command premium prices.

The most important festival on Khandi is Yastyr, when people exchange food delicacies with family and friends. Traditional is the egg of the Hoopfish of Arnakhish (Dagudashaag 2317).

Although many Khangans are vegetarian, a significant minority belong to so-called meat cults, which gather at elaborate ceremonies to taste strange and exotic meat dishes. The Travellers' Aid Society advises keeping any pets confined to starships or the security area of the TAS Hotel.

World Starport

Khandi has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
