• Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
• As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
• This world contains an archaeological site with suspected high-tech remnants of the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
• It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Sindal Subsector of Trojan Reach Sector.

Mainworld Data

Mainworld Size (S)

Vume is a Small World between 900km and 2,400km in diameter. The world has very low gravity between 0.05G and 0.09G. The horizon will appear about 2km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Vume has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Vume has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Vume Station

Vume Station is a huge modular surface habitat, built by an unknown alien civilization many thousands of years ago (possibly Kursae). Only a tiny fraction of the structure is inhabited by human scavengers and scrap merchants.

• The station is divided between four different factions, each of whom has a different strain of an alien bacterial sickness. Each strain has different effects on human thought processes, so the four factions are biologically incapable of understanding each other -- or understanding uninfected outsiders.

History & Background (Dossier)

The jump-3 transit across the Sindal Subsector normally goes via Vume and Salif, then on to Tyr in Dpres Subsector. However, relatively few vessels make this run due to the expense of maintaining jump-3 trade, and the dangers associated with transiting through the central worlds.

World Starport (Sp)

Vume has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Vume Highport, like many others in the region, was built by the General Development Corporation to facilitate trade. It was then put up for sale but no buyer emerged, so it is now run as a wholly-owned subsidiary of GeDeCo itself.

Vume has a population of 10,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

Vume has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)

Vume has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
