Masic-Uwada System[edit]

The primary is Masic, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.102 Sols, a mass of 1.02 Sols, and a diameter of 1.399 million km. The inner system consists of (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, and (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld – orbital position (I) is empty. (IV) Uwada orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld, and (V) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world lies at the outer edge of the habitable zone. (VI) a ringed large gas giant, (VII) a large gas giant, (VIII) a small gas giant, and (IX) a trace atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Only the mainworld and gas giant worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(IV) Uwada[edit]

(IV) Uwada is designated the mainworld. It orbits Masic at a mean distance of 1.02 AU (152.6 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 1 year 7 days and a rotation period of 25 hours. The axial tilt is 41 degrees. Uwada has a diameter of 10,287 km, a density of 6.99 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.02 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 1.68 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 19% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 74% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.4m. Mean surface temperature: 32°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences major seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans surge across the globe.

Satellites[edit]

Uwada retains two natural satellites, a vacuum worldlet named Sumuko and a thin atmosphere hospitable moon named Zanabar:

(IVa) Sumuko (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 20 Diameters/205,000 km)
(IVb) Zanabar (UWP Y455000-0, orbiting at 35 Diameters/360,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 332 million km², Land surface area: 86 million km², Water surface area: 246 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Masic-Uwada System[edit]

Uwada, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

  • Zanabar, Uwada's temperate hospitable outer moon, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (V) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The planet wide oceans are mostly free of ice except at the poles for most of the year. The ocean floor features several deep trenches. There are also several dormant underwater volcanoes which form shallow zones where sea life congregates.

The Xigons are 800kg ocean predators. Hundreds of these sleek pink and blue organisms hunt in well-coordinated packs. Their offspring eat their way out of their bodies upon death. They can spawn as parasites within other organisms which may have consumed their parent.

Tribes and clans of sea people have constructed crude steel hulled floating cities which are anchored here to exploit the fishing opportunities. They rely on some imported water purification systems for fresh water. They shelter amid the rocky atolls. The enormous schools of sea life make aquaculture an economic sector with potential for great profits with sufficient off planet transport and marketing. However, some local species approach sea monster dimensions and haunt the abyssal trenches. During winter months the stormy oceans hinder the crude fishing fleets. Some of the residences retreat to underwater pressurized seabed domes in the shallows to avoid the worst seasonal effects.

On the continental landmasses the tectonic activity has resulted in some fiery calderas. Vigorous drakes are a flying 400kg, aggressive thermophilic local species the inhabitants make every effort to avoid.

Rhodium prospectors wander betwixt granite obelisks and outcroppings. They travel light and scour the easily exploitable surface mineral deposits. The prospectors shamble zombie like across the surface careful to avoid purple fibrous spores which vaguely resemble fungal vats. These growths render the entrances to the planet’s vast cavern networks dangerous. These freelance miners are frequently addicted to a chewed plant-based narcotic which dulls the mind. At night they gather to camp and play strange reed flutes in chaotic choruses.

The interior dry plains are home to isolated acidic lakes inhabited by tribes of hostile rangers. They summer among the soaring summit mountain ranges and cultivate a species which blurs the lines and lives as a moving flower analog. The Firstworlds have approached these hard men to serve as mercenaries off world. Recruitment has met with limited success.

Peaceful enclaves of urbane Hoppers maintain the spartan down port as a neutral territory. They politely discourage warships of any origin from refueling here. Commercial merchant vessels are welcome.

In the outer system Santa Cruz is a remote Firstworlds gas giant mining platform orbiting the ringed large gas giant. Strange imported service robots and their overseers toil here. The admiralty of the Grand Fleet of the Firstworlds was not going to take any chances.

The outmost gas giant moon boasts the Almeth Refueling Station. Situated in the bottom of a massive ancient crater. The paranoid mission leader, fears alien raiders. He is lobbying for the procurement and deployment of a Wakatake class System Defense Boat. A pocket of science academy astronomers are collocated and are conducting routine baseline research. A naval contractor is tasked as the local defense commander. They have three orbital early warning monitors, which they can surveil from their secure subterranean bunker. Collectively they all look forward to being rotated back to Hasadran (world) at the end of their one year tour of duty.

World starport[edit]

Uwada has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Uwada possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.

World government[edit]

Uwada has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
