Uurku is a world suited to becoming an agricultural world, but with a population between 10,000 and 100,000 sophonts it lacks the capability to produce or process sufficient resources to export its projected agricultural produce. This world is a satellite of a gas giant or another planet in the system. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Arnakhish Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Uurku, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and a baronet. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This is the homeworld of the Ashdak Meshukiiba, a Minor Race. During the Long Night this world was named Largi Iiur.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
Uurku is located on the Vilani Main.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
The world is a satellite of the innermost gas giant, Stayla. Uurku appears from the available geophysical and planetological evidence to be a fragment of a larger body. Scars on the surface of the other satellites of Stayla seem to indicate a multiple collision, possibly from a body that wandered too close to the gas giant, was struck, then broke up under the massive tidal forces.
The mainworld has a vague resemblance to Terra; in size, rotation, gravity, and natural satellites. It has a 28 hour day and a 154 day yearly orbit, with almost no axial tilt.
The atmosphere has elevated levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide, giving acidic precipitation. Both plants and animals native to this planet are accustomed to the high carbonic acid levels in the rain, but long-term visitors should take precautions. The world has large bodies of water, but its close orbit prevents ice caps forming, and with elevated ozone in the atmosphere, weather world-wide is always found to be clement. Very few species of fauna exist (5% of Terra's diversity), and very many species of flora (twice as many as Terra). All major landmasses are covered by rainforest down to the seashore. The atmosphere is humid and hazy, and the whole surface of the planet is subject to great fogs and mists, on a scale rarely seen. Ecologists speculate that the planet is in a minor greenhouse effect, apparently recovering from a major ecosystem overload, which occurred circa -300,000 Imperial.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The world is host to two of the most remarkable creatures that share a symbiotic union: the Ashdak Meshukiiba (Anglic: Ashdak Meshukiiba) and Spence's Dracaena Marginata shrimp.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Uurku was originally settled by Vilani farmers and miners around -5500. The original Makhidkarun settlers, paying very little attention to the planet's non-profitable resources, ignored much of the fauna of Uurku.
The current colonies are situated in the far northern and southern latitudes. The world is self sufficient at a TL–8 to TL–9 level, trading spice, food staples, rice, and ores offworld through their two starports. The Vilani society is both welcoming and gregarious to travelers.
Uurku is also host to one of the universe's most remarkable symbiotic unions where the sum of the whole is so much greater than the sum of the parts, the Ashdak Meshukiiba.
In 1102 Saloika Bremiurin discovered the true nature of the native Spence's (dragon tree) shrimp and astounded the scientific community of Xeno-biologists by revealing the first unique reproductive cycle found in over 2 centuries.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Uurku has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Demographics[edit]
- Ashdak Meshukiiba, population >= 85%
- Humaniti, population <= 10%
- Other sophonts <= 5%
World Government (G)[edit]
Uurku is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Uurku has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Uurku possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
Historical Data[edit]
Like its neighbour Khaem, Uurku is a minor planet owing its current habitation to a modest supply of useful metal ores. The first modern prospecting teams arrived in 586.
