Thoznaen is a preindustrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by Vargr sophonts located in the Marrakesh Subsector of Beyond Sector.
- This world has a Vargr Corsair Base.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The system has a reputation as a corsair haven, with numerous corsair bands occupying the planetoid belts and gas giant moons.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Thoznaen is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Thoznaen has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Thoznaen has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]
Thoznaen was once a garden world, but two thousand years of development has left its atmosphere polluted with high levels of sulfur and nitrogen compounds. These produce unpleasant irritation to the nose and throat. The world's two large continents have considerable arid regions, limiting dense settlement to coastal areas.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The original biosphere of Thoznaen has become marginalized by invasive species from dozens of worlds and from ecological degradation resulting from poorly regulated industrial development.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This world is the centre of Vargr society in The Beyond, with half a billion Vargr living in more than fifty nations.
Imperial intervention against state-sponsored piracy crushed the nascent Thoznaen Empire in 735 and no government has managed to control more than a quarter of the population since.
World Starport[edit]
Thoznaen has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships.
This facility, usually considered the official Downport, is located in the small mountainous neutral nation of Uthevagogha.
Note that the independent habitat of Kaelkoudha is considered the official Highport by the Traveller's Aid Society.
World Population (P)[edit]
Thoznaen has a population of 500,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- The population consists of Vargr.
World Languages[edit]
The three major languages are clearly descended from Gvegh, but have deviated considerably.
Urbanization[edit]
Vargr cities are lively and chaotic, full of garish colours and loud noises. Streets are packed and buildings press together. Vehicle traffic is fast and chaotic; the accident rate is low only because of superior Vargr reflexes. Zoning codes are rare, and districts jumble together.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Thoznaen possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-3.
World Government (G)[edit]
Thoznaen has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
- This world has more than fifty nation states.
- None of the six major nations control more than a twelfth of the population.
- Nations include the Gzankfuezthun Republic, which is a client state of the Zhodani Consulate; the Koezkfozgevu Empire, which is a client state of the Third Imperium; and mountainous, politically neutral Uthevagogha.
World Law (L)[edit]
Thoznaen has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Economy[edit]
Thoznaen is a net importer of food, its own biosphere having degraded.
A facility on Thoznaen specialises in manufacturing Infiniti Arms weapons models designed for the Vargr market.
Trivia[edit]
In the 100s, Yangikent reacquired gravitic and jump knowledge from a captured corsair out of Thoznaen.
