Yangikent is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Katanga Subsector of Beyond Sector.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • This world-system has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
  • It is the homeworld of the Gmina sophont race.
  • This world has a colony on Djend, established in 455.

Mainworld Data[edit]

This is a tidally locked world.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Yangikent is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Yangikent has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Yangikent has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

  • Astana Peninsula (dark face; the site of Yangi settlements)

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Human Yangi (who are of Sindalian Empire descent) keep the native Gmina on reservations, and don't respond well to offworlder attempts to investigate.

Humans first settled Yangikent in -1408. Yangi legends claim that the colonists had sought to settle on Corella but were rebuffed, although the Corellan League has no record of this. Documented contact with the Corellan League dates from around -1100 but distance limited trade. In the 100s Yangikent reacquired gravitic and jump drive knowledge from a captured corsair out of Thoznaen.

Never very populous but almost pathologically self-reliant, the Yangi established a colony on neighbouring Djend in 455. They maintain good relations with the Third Imperium, mainly to counter Bruhkarri influence.

World Starport[edit]

Yangikent has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Yangikent has a population of 8,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics[edit]

  • Humans, 90% (of the Yangi culture, descended from the Sindalian diaspora)
  • Gmina, 10%

Urbanization[edit]

The remains of the original colonists' converted troop transport still form part of the old town in the capital city of Akmola.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Yangikent possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Yangikent is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Military[edit]

  • Space Defense Force
  • Rangers (paramilitary; the only armed forces outside of the SDF)

World Law (L)[edit]

Yangikent has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
