The Principality of Bruhkarr is an interstellar polity in the Liberty Hall Subsector of The Beyond Sector.

It was founded by House Bruhkarr, a faction that lost a power struggle on Albe, a remnant of the fallen Sindalian Empire.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]

This polity has officially been ruled by Prince Rashid II for more than 200 years. Rashid has remained in suspended animation at the edge of death since 894. In his name, a series of regents rules the Principality at the head of the Council of Notables.

Psionic practices are part of standard therapies for the mentally ill and criminals but, unlike the Zhodani Consulate, there is no official Thought Police, and the average citizen can purchase and use a psionic shield.

Interstellar Relations[edit]

The Principality has a fractious relationship with the Mapepire Cluster, with the Principality accusing Mapepire of supporting piracy in the space surrounding its territory.

The Principality also has a hostile -- or at best cold -- relationship with the Katanga Empire. The ongoing civil war on Balleau (Beyond 1802) pits pro-Bruhkarri city states against isolationist and pro-Katangan elements and risks accidental escalation.

The I'Sred*Ni Protectorate refuses to permit the Principality of Bruhkarr to trade at Web Edge (Beyond 2514). As with their exclusion of the Floriani, the Sred*Ni provide no explanation. It is known that Protectorate ships have come into conflict with Bruhkarri ships in neutral space; the Bruhkarri claim the Protectorate was the aggressor.

Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]

These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this polity:

  • -123: Countess Fatima, the head of House Bruhkarr, a faction that lost a power struggle on Albe, settles Bruhkarr.
    • Fatima and her daughter Alia retain the title of countess. Over the course of a century, they expand their domain until Bruhkarr is the capital of a dozen fledgling colonies.
  • 34: Alia's son, Malik I, unsatisfied with the title of count, proclaims himself Prince of Bruhkarr.
    • For the next two centuries the Principality concentrates on developing its economy rather than expanding.
  • 615: Succession Crisis. Having been ruled for six centuries by Bruhkarr, Katanga and other worlds secede during the following civil war.
  • 633: Rashid I secures the throne. At this point the Principality is reduced to just Bruhkarr and outposts on Khimi and Koewing.
  • 701: Malik III restores Bruhkarr to its present size after conquering Yaple.
  • 894: Rashid II is placed in suspended animation at the edge of death.

Era: 1200[edit]

The Principality of Bruhkarr has been an Imperial Client State for 250 years. It thrived under the umbrella of Imperial protection. However, cracks began to appear about 100 years ago with the death of the Prince. The Bruhkarran Assembly, a group of the most powerful nobles in the Principality, fought over the succession. Eventually a compromise was reached which put the Romaran House in charge. This house was a minor noble house with very little political power. It produced a string of ruling Princes who ruled only as long as the Assembly was happy.

Now, as external forces are beginning to put on pressure, the Principality is riddled with dissension and blood feuds between noble houses. There have been a dozen small scale shooting wars in the last ten years. Death duels and assassinations have cut down many strong leaders.

Visitors could find this area dangerous. Although fighting usually only involves house forces of the nobility, bystanders can be caught in the crossfire. However, a merchant dealing in weapons or mercenaries could do well in the fighting in this region.
