Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Katanga has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Bruhkarri settlers arrived here in 439. The world was appealing, despite the downsides of high gravity and powerful storms due to the dense atmosphere.

World Starport[edit]

Katanga has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Katanga has a population of 50,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Katanga possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Katanga is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

  • The Instruments of State rule in the name of the Emperor. Chief Instruments, who are ministers of various bureaus, are effectively autonomous rulers of their departments but are constrained by procedure and a culture of consensus from pursuing divisive policies.

World Military[edit]

Most Katangan citizens serve a brief stint in a local Instrument of Public Order paramilitary police force, either as conscripts or in a part-time reserve role.

World Law (L)[edit]

Katanga has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).

World Economy[edit]

The real lifeblood of the economy is found in small-time entrepreneurs who often lack the proper documents to legally operate a business, but who flourish nonetheless by means of small bribes and official indifference.

World Culture[edit]

Close ties with family and local community are prized. Outsiders tend to be treated with a taciturn suspicion.
