Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Duchy of Mapepire (pronounced "mah-pay-PEE") is a loose coalition of worlds located in the Mapepire Cluster, grouped more as a tourist delight than as a political faction.
Individual worlds are nominally represented at the capital of Mapepire Balsayn by nobles. Populous Beaumonde is represented by a count, and the rest by barons, but the actual government structure of worlds is self-determined by the local populace. The Duchy regulates inter-system commerce, maintains standing armed forces, and operates and protects the primary starports in each member system.
The cluster is considered de rigueur for Beyond's wealthier citizens.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Duchy began as little more than a protection racket but has evolved into a full-fledged federal government, albeit one with minimal regulations.
The Duchy has always been the poorer neighbor of the Duchy of Trelyn. It generally does not have the tech level of its richer neighbor.
In general, though, this is a good place to travel or trade. Officials do not take themselves too seriously and bribes can accomplish a great deal.
Ground Forces[edit]
They use a TL–12 Cluster Combat Task Force, similar in size to a regiment.
[edit]
The Duchess's Own Legion is a collection of naval and marine assets organised as a unitary force structured as a single fleet, with task forces assigned to specific duties. These might be patrol forces as small as a pair of Viper interceptors.
The majority of the ships of the line are TL–12 designs and a number of asteroid vessels are built at Mapepire Balsayn.
- The Cluster use flotillas of (x12) Dunkle Class Fleet Scouts in each battle squadron.
- The fleet has a division of (x4) Joker Class Battle Cruisers in each battle squadron.
- Each battle squadron has a CruDiv of (x6) Nara Class Light Cruisers.
- A set of (x8) Faker Class Fleet Escorts are assigned to each battle squadron.
- A group of (x4) Silversun Class Missile Corvettes are included for each battle squadron.
- The Cluster includes (x4) heavily armored Grasp Class Gunships, which are used for close support of ground forces.
Political Relations[edit]
- The Duchy's relationship with the Corellan League is cordial, despite Mapepire having essentially annexed five of the League's worlds centuries ago. The League remains Mapepire's largest trading partner.
- Trade with the neighbouring Trelyn Domain is nearly non-existent, partially because of the poorly developed nature of the worlds between them but mostly because of distrust by the Trelyns over pirate activity in the gap separating the two states.
- Mapepire maintains good relations with the Third Imperium, which views the Duchy as a counterweight to its former client state, the Principality of Bruhkarr.
- While the Principality has often accused Mapepire of supporting corsair activity, the Principality has never been able to produce concrete evidence.
