Barba Amarilla is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It is a member of the Mapepire Cluster in the Mapepire Subsector of Beyond Sector.

System Data[edit]

Mainworld Conditions[edit]

The world's eccentric orbit warms the planet to almost the melting point of water during its brief summer, and cools it to the point that carbon dioxide is frozen out of the atmosphere during the winter. The surface is only marginally habitable during the summer and autumn weeks and even then, planet-wide dust storms can choked the air until winter arrives.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The planet was only inhabited because of an Ancients site discovered by prospectors in 893. A rush of artefact hunters and archaeologists arrived, building small colonies, but the site yielded no working artefacts, just a series of half-collapsed catacombs. Within decades, several settlements were abandoned, their ruins half buried in frozen dust. The remaining settlement is maintained simply to uphold the Duchy of Mapepire's claim, over the world and any hypothetical future discoveries.

World Starport[edit]

Barba Amarilla has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

  • The Duchy of Mapepire both operates and protects the primary starport, as it does in each member system.

Demographics[edit]

The inhabitants are all members of the Baroness's family or retinue. They operate a science centre -- more theme park than research lab -- adjacent to the Ancients site.
