• It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
• It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Katanga Subsector of Beyond Sector.

• It is a mainworld which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
• This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.

History & Background (Dossier)

Balleau lies between the Katanga Empire and the Principality of Bruhkarr. An ongoing civil war on this world pits pro-Bruhkarri city states against isolationist and pro-Katangan elements and risks accidental escalation.

The first colonists on Balleau arrived from Bruhkarr in 580, establishing an agricultural settlement to support a rudimentary starport for the jump-3 route between Bruhkarr and Katanga. When Katanga and many other worlds seceded from the Principality of Bruhkarr decades later, the populace of Balleau underwent a schism that has persisted to current times.

World Starport

Balleau has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Balleau has a population of 700,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
