Tertha is a low-population vacuum world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Core Subsector of Core Sector in the Domain of Sylea.

Historical Data[edit]

Ancients Era (Speculation) There is no surviving indication that the Ancients visited the Tertha system. The system was designated an Ancients site during the First Survey by the Third Imperium, but this designation was later withdrawn. [2]

Early Vilani Age (Speculation) As a world on the Sylean Main, the Tertha system was surveyed cursorily around -8100, when the Vilani were exploring the Main at around the time they discovered Sylea just a few parsecs away. Designated the Kan system at the time, it had little to offer the picky and slow-moving Vilani, and was left untouched aside from a navigation beacon placed on one of the worldlets near the habitable zone. The Vilani then left the system to its own devices. [2]

Not so the Geonee, who were also exploring the Sylean Main around the same time. Deciding that a forward base close to but not on the Vilani route to Sylea was desirable, the Geonee set up a low-key base concealed in the side of a mountain on the same worldlet the Vilani had used for their beacon. Intended as a supply base and hidey hole, the base was kept small and well hidden, but could refuel ships and store curiosities the field explorers found. In this role is was quite successful, and the Vilani never found it. The Geonee operated quietly out the Kan base and others like it for centuries. [2]

Consolidation Wars (Speculation) While the Geonee base was in a prime location to be used during the Vilani wars of oppression, the Geonee declined to use it offensively, choosing instead to keep the base a secret in case they might make use of it in a war they were better prepared for. That day never came. The base lay forgotten for thousands of years. [2]

Third Imperium - Milieu Zero (Speculation) During their wars against the neighboring states, the rising Sylean Federation made careful surveys of the worlds around them, and discovered the old Geonee base. Not recognizing the 8,000 year old Geonee markings, the surveyors speculatively noted the base as an Ancients site and moved on. The wars and subsequent early development of the new Third Imperium did result in the placement of a bare bones fuel depot and cargo transfer port (Class D) on the world, but it remained a backwater and a punishment posting for the early starport authority. [2]

Once the Imperium recontacted the Geonee, the connection was made to the old base. While the Geonee no longer remembered the long abandoned base, they were quick to make a claim on it, and made themselves a nuisance until the Imperium decided to make an economic example of the world. The Imperial starport designation was moved to another tiny world in the system, and a campaign of lucrative research grants and relocation awards was undertaken to ensure the new world, named Tertha, remained the dominant world in the system. The old port at Kan was left to moulder as a challenge and economic shackle for the Geonee to don if they so desired. [2]

The facilities at Kan are technically within the noble fiefs of the Geonee nobility, but as they are well beyond the modern territory of the Geonee, they generally sit unmaintained. [2]
