Strider is a nonindustrial, fluidic hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • A Prison World, exile camp, or prison camp for criminals or other exiles is located upon this world in addition to other points of interest.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Aldebaran Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.

System Data[edit]

The Strider primary is a M1 spectral class star; a smaller, older star than most in this region.

This system has no gas giants, limiting its usefulness as a refueling point.

There are 4 rocky worlds, however:

  • 0.2 AU Gimli
  • 0.5 AU Legolas
  • 3.2 AU Strider
  • 12.0 AU Smeagol

Mainworld Data[edit]

Strider is far enough from its primary, that it's atmosphere fluctuates with its orbit, which is quite eccentric. The atmosphere can become most liquid nitrogen-oxygen at some points during its winter, and a thin atmosphere during summer.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

A normal sized world, but its variable atmosphere makes it a difficult place to live. Gas-lakes form at varying locations each season, and can impact living locations.

World Starport[edit]

Strider has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

The Highport is occupied and maintained by Solmani Federation security, who monitor and clear any visitors prior to landings. There are 2 Down ports:

  • Downport Populous, which acts as the de facto Startown.
  • Downport Military, which maintains a division-sized ground force.

World Technology Level[edit]

Strider possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Strider is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Law Level[edit]

Strider has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

On this world, the population is allowed to self-govern.

The decision has resulted in a rather brutal form of democracy.

World Military[edit]

A Solomani military force is maintained here primarily for training purposes, but can and has been used for population suppression.

World Economy[edit]

Most industry here is technological and focused on "keeping the lights on".

Surprisingly, there is something of a tourist trade.

Trade Data[edit]

Prison management, tourism

World Demographics[edit]

Strider is currently being used primarily as a prison world for the unwanted in this subsector.
