Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]

Oghma is an iceworld, but retains enough of an industrial base to build jump-capable starships.

Stellar Data[edit]

Oghma has three stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

Oghma is on the Florian Route, the main Imperium/Florian League trade route that runs from Tobia to Yggdrasil.

The system has four gas giants, including the superjovian Ra-La-Lantra, and the three small giants: Kholio, Khazha, and Keetle.

The gas giant Khazha has a B-class starport separate from that on the mainworld, owned and operated by the General Development Company with zero interaction or participation from the people of Oghma itself.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Oghma is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Oghma has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Oghma has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

The seas are almost always frozen, with small levels of liquid water arising when the companion star Doruc is close enough to add some heat.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Oghma is a non-aligned world in Sindal Subsector of the Trojan Reach. Its society descends from the long-collapsed Sindalian Empire.

World Starport[edit]

Oghma has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

This starport (actually at Khazha, not the mainworld) is run by GeDeCo, and is comparatively safe – the Raiders know better than to attack interstellar shipping, and instead prey on weak backworlds. Once a member world of the Sindalian Empire, the main world maintains its own starport which still bears the dragon sigil of the empire.

World Population (P)[edit]

Oghma has a population of 40,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

  • The population consists mostly of Humans, though slaves from other species may also be encountered.

Urbanization[edit]

Cities are recreations of the originals, which were destroyed during the fall of the Sindalian Empire. They take the names of the originals, and are usually near to the site of the predecessor. Cities are uniform in architecture and function, with the foundations built from salvaged parts of subterranean civil defence structures. Subsequent structures were mostly built with materials stolen by raiders from neighbouring systems. The heart of each city is a sturdily built utility centre, necessary for survival on hostile Oghma.

Cities include the following:

  • Brdzh
  • Gauth (the downport is nearby)
  • Inkh
  • Jantig
  • Slouryn

Oghmans use many forms of transportation including grav vehicles, combustion-engine ground cars, trains and trams, and genetically engineered beasts of burden. Woolly kian are among the latter. Most transportation byways are beneath the surface and dedicated for vehicular use. In addition, most cities are linked to a trans-continental rail system that transports partially manufactured starship components, vehicles and weaponry from the remote Asphodel Manufactory to the city centres.

World Technology Level[edit]

Oghma possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Oghma is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

Oghma was formerly a member of the Sindalian Empire, and the starport still bears the dragon sigil of the Sindalians.

World Law (L)[edit]

Oghma has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Culture[edit]

The Oghman Clans are a barbaric culture of raiders who have reduced the nearby worlds of Marduk (Trojan Reach 2120) and Borite (Trojan Reach 2219) to pre-spaceflight technology levels through theft of equipment and enslavement of scientists and scholars.

The rulers of Oghma intend to conquer their neighbouring worlds along the Dustbelt by weakening their industrial and technological bases. Over the course of generations, the Oghman raiders have targeted scientists, teachers, engineers and craftsmen in their slaver raids. The Oghmans are savage xenophobes ruled by tribal warrior-kings, where a warrior's worth is determined by how many jump-capable ships he 'rides' and how many soldiers he commands. Oghman Raiders are a common threat in Sindal Subsector; they are despised by all civilized worlds.

Religion[edit]

Oghma has a monotheistic-animist, ancestor-worshipping religion.

World Economy[edit]

Each industrial centre produces products of distinct type, with sharp distinction between them. Oghma doesn't have a consumer-based economy and therefore industrial centres don't compete, instead working together to build equipment and supplies needed for raiding. Most warlords have at least one industrial centre as part of their fief. It is the responsibility of the warlord to supply adequate labour to run such facilities.
