In the time of the Ancients (~ IY -300,000), a large gas giant named Fyutinyu, orbited in the habitable zone of the star Kneng, the primary of the Lair system, and possessed eight moons of significance named, Ossobro, Rilath, Ursoyr, Alpdris, Duadbi, Brudeod, Ubayayl, and Efosursi. After the destruction of the local Draysask named Esoth during the Ancient's War, Yaskoydray created an artificial pocket universe and rotated Fyutinyu and seven of its eight moons out of normal space into it, leaving behind only Rilath in normal space in Fyutinyu's former orbit. The large gas giant was subsequently artificially ignited by the introduction of significant mass and other elements to its core and lower atmosphere and became the primary G5 V star Fyutinyu of the pocket universe system.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Fyutinyu is a solitary star. Its age is estimated at no more than 300,000 years.

  • It is an artificial creation.
  • It is a yellow main sequence.
Fyutinyu has a solitary primary star.

Remarks Fyutinyu is an artificially ignited star; its characteristics do not actually match the listed data for a standard star on the main-sequence

Fyutinyu is a former large gas giant that has been artificially ignited to form a star whose luminosity and spectrum closely matches that of Kneng, the primary star of the Lair system. It is currently orbited by seven bodies: seven of the former eight (artificially placed, rearranged, and terraformed) moons of the gas giant. Their orbital positions and distances have been rearranged to form a rosette around the artificial star. Each orbits the primary at a distance of 0.7 AU.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Fyutinyu Pocket Universe[edit]

The Fyutinyu pocket universe is linked to the primary universe through a number of portals located on and around Lair, including a portal on each of Lair's moonlets Errgh and Sanko. There are several dormant portals scattered about the southern polar Gaksadudha continent and other remote locations on the surface of Lair.

TravellerMap (T5SS):

The entire pocket universe is approximately 5 AU across: travelling directly away from Fyutinyu in a straight line will result in arriving back at the star.

  • Light from the star can never escape and fills the universe: everywhere is bathed with a soft, diffuse, constant glow.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

In the time of the Ancients, the draysask Esoth, one of Yaskoydray's 420 descendants (collectively known as the Draysaskin) had been assigned the task of modifying Terran canine stock to be uplifted into a sentient servitor race.

  • Esoth worked on his project of modifying the canids in the system centered on the star Kneng. His base was located on a moon known as Ossobro, which orbited a large gas giant named Fyutinyu that lay within Kneng's habitable zone. Esoth's servants had terraformed the various moons of the gas giant (some of which had been moved from other locations in the Kneng system) to resemble specific environments found throughout Charted Space.
  • One of these moons, named Rilath (today called Lair), was modified to broadly resemble Terra, and was initially home to several small groups of transplanted hominids, including Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens. It later also became the home of the early proto-Vargr.

After the Final War and the elimination of Esoth, Yaskoydray rotated Fyutinyu and its moons, save Rilath alone, into a pocket universe. The gas giant was transformed into a star and its moons were placed around it as a rosette.

An android named Ihdren-Gzal was constructed to oversee the equipment and resources of the Fyutinyu system from his base on Ossobro, and to observe the Vargr until the return of Yaskoydray.
