Gir is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a part of the Third Reformed French Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation, located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]

3 rocky worlds orbit close to the primary.

  • Brique: A tidally locked rock orbiting at 0.2 AU.
  • Steine: A larger dry, vacuum world orbits at 0.65 AU

The Gir mainworld orbits at 0.35 AU.

A typical gas giant, Ettine, orbits 6 AU from the primary with 8 medium-to-large, but unpopulated moons.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Gir mainworld is tidally locked to its primary, a temperamental M-class dwarf.

It is a dry world with only a trace atmosphere. The intense temperature differences can drive intense dust storms that can present real danger.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

The frequent radiation bursts make it difficult and inconvenient to live on the day-side of Gir, while the typical deep cold of the night side is also unpalatable for most. Therefore, the Giran population tends to live in the twilight zone between the two, where warmth is available and the topographical features can provide natural shielding.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Gir is a member of the Euxene Cluster, a small but important cluster and a major trade center lying in the spinward-coreward quadrant of Aldebaran Sector.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport[edit]

Gir has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Gir Highport was constructed as a strategic facility with funding from the Euxene government.

Each settlement on the Rim hosts its own B-class Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Gir possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Gir has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law Level[edit]

Only shotguns are legal here. Gir is essentially a vacuum world, and the governments essentially agree that weapons that can put holes in exterior walls are problematic.

World Military[edit]

Each settlement maintains a well-organized militia.

World Economy[edit]

Each settlement is centered at or about a large scale mining operation on the inhabited Rim. Travellers and other visitors provide a steady tourist trade.

Trade Data[edit]

Gir is a would-be backwater mining world that also sits on a major Jump-4 trade route junction. Large bulk transports stop here regularly to refuel, repair, and off-load materials destined for Daedalus (Aldebaran 0606) or even Asterope (Aldebaran 0706).

World Demographics[edit]

Humaniti 100%

World Culture[edit]

Gir was colonized by metal hunting groups. On Gir, they found an abundance of precious metals and radioactives, and so they stayed. Gir has become the central metal source for the Rimward side of the Third Reformed French Confederate Republic.

Giran themselves speak a mixture of Anglic and an evolved Euxene-French dialect.

Urbanization[edit]

Settlement are large arcologies built on either the lea-side of a mountain-feature, or inside of a Rim crater. There is a Rim-train that connects the settlements that circles the world every other standard day.
