Gillon is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial, moderate population world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

  • It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Hedreunides Subsector of Matzen Sector.
  • It is a main world which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
  • This world-system hosts a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
  • This world has an exploration base, which is similar to an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling explorer personnel and exploratory starships.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

System Chart[edit]

Gillon System Map Basic.png Gillon Companion Star Map.JPG
Diagram of the Gillon system.

Mainworld Data[edit]

  • Gillon is the only satellite of the gas giant Kaurshar.
  • Kaurshar orbits the primary star of the system every 241.065 standard days.
  • Gillon orbits Kaurshar every 4.9 standard days.
  • Gillon has a rotational period of 45.29 standard hours.
  • The planet has an axial tilt of 40 degrees.
  • The average surface temperature of Gillon is 88.34c.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Gillon is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

  • The planet has a diameter of 7809 miles / 12,494 kilometres.
  • Gillon has a molten core with a density of 0.94.
  • The surface gravity of the planet 0.94 standard and has therefore been classified as a normal gravity world. The surface pressure however is 1.7 compared to the standard of 1.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Gillon has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

  • The atmosphere of the planet has been classified as "standard oxygen-nitrogen mix with additional gas mix taint"

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Gillon has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • The surface of the planet has been calculated to be 80% covered by tainted liquid water.
  • In some regions of the planet surface and at various times of the days this water can turn to steam due to the extreme temperatures.

Satellites:[edit]

  • Gillon is a satellite in its own right and has no satellites of its own.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

  • Gillon has 5 major continents and 11 minor continents.
  • The land mass for the most part is rough and often bare rock alongside the oceans but in the mountainous regions, especially at higher altitude, the land is covered in fern like plants and other flora.
  • There are 6 notable volcanoes across the planets surface all of which are active.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

  • Gillon does have significant life but the majority of it exists in the oceans. The life forms that exist on the planet are able to survive in the tainted water that is almost at boiling point and in the dense atmosphere where other life forms would die under those extremes.
  • The water systems of this world have a truly exotic ecosystem but it is one that has flourished due to the extremes on the planets surface.
  • On the low ground life as many sophont races would recognise is simply not viable. The extreme heat and rolling clouds of steam have so far prevented air breathing creatures from developing even from single celled organisms.
  • At high altitudes a significant amount of flora has developed along with insect like life forms.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Gillon has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • Gillon has both a planet based starport and also an orbital starport.
  • The orbital starport is the larger facility of the two and actually orbits the gas giant kaurshar to allow the benefits of gas giant refueling if required.
  • The planet based starport is located in one of the many mountainous regions by one of the largest cities on the planets surface.

Facilities[edit]

Port facilities within the system include:

  • Standard facilities as would be expected in a type B startport are available.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Gillon possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Gillon is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

  • The planetary leader of Gillon is elected in 10 year cycles by the leaders of various scientific disciplines across the planet.
  • The planet does boast a multitude of different universities across a wide range of disciplines, however, technological advances are still lower than norm in this region of space.
  • The leader of the planet is referred to as "High Professor".

World Military[edit]

  • The planet, beyond starport security and local police forces has no military as such.

World Law (L)[edit]

Gillon has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

  • The law on Gillon can be somewhat territorial in hows it applied and the wary traveller would be best serve to check in relation to their destination of any specific requirements.
  • For the most part the laws themselves are not to onerous or indeed restrictive, however, policing and the local judiciary is extreme and travellers should avoid contravening local law to avoid potential prison sentences or worse.

  • Information: Documents

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Gillon has a population of c400,000,000

Urbanization[edit]

  • The planet has more than 50 substantial cities across its surface. These cities are all located at high altitude where the temperature is cooler and the steam and scoulding water are less of a concern.
  • Even at these altitudes the environment is still too hostile for many sophont races to step outside without full cover protective clothing and breathing equipment.
  • Along the shorelines smaller facilities operate to harvest both seafood and ocean based flora that provides the vast majority of foodstuffs for the planets population. It is hoped that one day these facilities can become industrialised enough to generate an interstellar trade opportunity.

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogeneity: 3 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 9 (friendly)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: 5 (concrete)
