Engakhs Independent Cluster

The Engakhs Independent Cluster is the name given by its Vargr inhabitants to a star cluster in Knoellighz Sector. Colonized initially long ago at Khezoeridosai (Knoellighz 1212), the resident Vargr spent long centuries rediscovering Jump-1 technology. Upon attaining Jump-1 for their general purpose hull designs, surveyor scouts began to explore their cluster, seven worlds along the Spinward border of Knoellighz. Hopeful of finding room to grow, the Vargr began programs to train future colonists to reach for those stars, to find new homes and resources, and to secure an interstellar future.

Description[edit]

Located in Engakhs Subsector, the worlds of the Engakhs Independent Cluster, in order of colonization, are:

  • Khezoeridosai (1212)
  • Tetsoung (1213)
  • Aenguezae (1114)
  • Zovoe (1013)
  • Ursthae (1014)
  • Kuoeedhuerrgh (1012)
  • Venuerrrroell (0913)

Through trial and error, failures that doomed one colony and respites in habitable worlds, the outbound colony starships laid nominal claim to the rest of the Cluster. The exploration and colonization program ended when non-Vargr made contact. The expansion was halted by the discovery and visitation of Zhodani Consulate scoutships from two parsecs to Spinward. Xenophobia of the strange, mentalist Humaniti caused a stir in the Vargr colonists, for they had little in the way of a military Navy. Their starships up until first contact with the Zhodani were 600dT general purpose hulls. After staking claim to Kuoeedhuerrgh and Venuerrrroell, the shipyards of Khezoeridosai begin kitting their hulls for military application. In addition, as of 1105 the new Naval Bases were flagged and staffed.

As of 1105, the Engakhs Independent Cluster continues to take inventory of the bounty their worlds have to offer and how best to safely extract a living at each. There is an exodus of Doom Trade in migrating desparate colonists from Tetsoung to Zovoe and, better still, to Venuerrroell. This Spinward flow of peoples has nearly depleted Khezoeridosai of its populace, with those wishing to stay maintaining the status quo in the rural, agricultural areas.

The Engakhs Independent Cluster is another example of the effects of the Crystal Wall of Knoellighz, as indicated by the xenophobia exhibited by Cluster Vargr when visited by the Zhodani from Etlieejibia' Subsector. The once exploratory curiosity of the Cluster was stymied with the advanced Jump technology of Humaniti. Though stonewalled by the Vargr in this small confederation, the Zhodani continue to test the waters for opportunities to trade for goods needed in Etlieejibia'. As a primitive, interstellar Navy forms with the auxiliary help of one Hunters' Bawn Privateer band based on Tetsoung, occasional misunderstandings between the Vargr of the Cluster and the Zhodani have become violent, enough so as to warrant the evacuation of visiting Zhodani ships.

Vessels[edit]

The typical Engakhs Independent Cluster starship hull is a 600dT Colonist Naval Transiteer, a TL-9 design with a spike in early Jump-1 breakthrough. Streamlined hulls feature a 50dT in-system Cutter, a stuffy Compact Bridge, superficial hull Solar Panels, atmospheric maneuvering Aerofins, and TL 9 avionics, navigation and electronics. Military kitted ships have six hardpoints of mainly beam weaponry as missiles have yet to catch on in space conflicts. The hulls make up for this with extra training in Gunnery for point defense after encountering the Zhodani to Spinward. Each of these ships has enough fuel for two Jump-1 as a necessity to commuting the Cluster and refuel skimming at Gas Giants or the Downports of each member world. Ample cargo is allotted, as the designers knew the hull would undergo task changes over time and need. The shipyards at Khezoeridosai predicted that this hull would be a standard design and ensured that it required minimal refit for new operations. Scouts, colony vessels, naval starships, in-system patrollers, liners and traders all make use of this 600dT hull kitted to the task at hand. Lacking originality, the drydocks of each A- and B- Starport are freed to specialize in the servicing of this class of starship, reducing costs long-term.
