The Consortium class Bulk Freighter has been modified to carry some weapons and transport military vessels. It has been pressed into service as a warship.
Description[edit]
It is a vessel with 1-G and J-6 performance with a Unstreamlined Dispersed Structure Hull. This class serves with the fleets of the Tomon Trade Federation. These vessels are built one at a time at the orbital shipyards over Clatt (Matzen 0803). First and foremost these vessels work trade routes for massive amounts of bulk cargo. Passengers are seldom a major consideration and these ships are hardly designed for comfort. Spartan and utilitarian they serve the bottom line and keeping the Trade Federation profitable. Several more advanced ports with military bases lack the ability to build ships capable of transporting their deadly cargo of combat vessels. The modular design can be adapted, hauling four 10,000 Battle Riders is typical for this class when deployed in this role. The vessels immense range grants a powerful strategic advantage over more primitive warships. The dispersed structure hull is selected to allow all fighters and combat vessels to launch and recover as quickly as possible. It is incapable of wilderness refueling on its own and is dependent on fleet logistical assets. Its own subcraft can skim fuel for it, and it has its own fuel refineries for on board fuel purification. There is a back-up Model/9 fib ship computer.
It carries heavy armament and a powerful defensive suite. The hull is unarmored, and relies on fifty sand caster batteries and ten repulsor bays for defense. The ship has factor 9 meson screens and factor 9 nuclear dampers with full back up units on stand by, in the event of catastrophic failures. The weapon load out is keyed to defensive fire control to screen missile strikes and fighter attacks. The primary offensive effort are the 220 compact factor 9 missile bays, ten particle accelerator bays and ten meson gun bays, fifty laser batteries and fifty fusion gun batteries.
Four hundred shipboard security specialists resist boarding. They have 21 drop capsules at their disposal. There are four 20dton Long Boats, four 4dton Grav APCs, and four 10,000 Battle Riders carried in the baseline configuration, pending refits.
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. History & Background[edit]
The Tomon Trade Federation had to face the reality that they needed additional hulls to get their most advanced models of advanced battle riders and system defense boats into offensive operations and that defense alone wouldn't ensure their continued survival. The TL–15 advanced, long range jump drives, result in a sacrifice of normal acceleration. At one point these were referred to a Guild High Liners prior to their reclassification. Fully laden with battle riders or system defense boats, very little of the original capacious cargo capacity remains.
